World Resources Institute (WRI)
The World Resources Institute reported that IKEA had become the first global company to halve its food waste, naming Winnow's smart scales and AI technology as the tool IKEA used to track what food was wasted and why. Ingka Group, which operates IKEA's stores and restaurants, cut food waste by 54 percent across 400 in-store restaurants in 32 markets since 2017, a reduction WRI equates to saving more than 20 million meals, avoiding 36,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, and saving $37 million a year. The piece places IKEA's results within WRI's Champions 12.3 coalition and the 10x20x30 initiative, noting that food loss and waste account for roughly 24 percent of the world's calories. Winnow is named specifically as IKEA's measurement technology partner, though the piece focuses on IKEA's achievement rather than on Winnow itself.
